Galentines Day! (or a Fun-Girls night in!)

Congratulation, you survived another holiday season!! Hopefully with plenty of time to start saving your bank account again … Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.
Valentine’s day.. what a day! It truly is a day to call out how much you love someone for a whole 24 hours … or how Single AF you are.

I have personally never seen one episode of Parks and Recreation but I HAVE been celebrating #GalentinesDay since college! It was always a day we would look forward too – a night in with the girls (in our dorm that is!) decorating one of our dorms with pink streamer, pre-gaming with some drinking games and blasting our favorite 2000’s hits but most importantly enjoying each other’s company.

Have a Party… after all, its a Thursday night!

First things first; pick out those invites! Have fun with choosing them. Keep in mind they may also set the expectation for your party. If you are looking for a cozy movie night with wine, but select an intricate invite with lace & fancy writing, it may throw off your entire theme. Check out Zazzle for cute invites. Order them early so you have plenty of time to get them in the mail and hear back for the RSVPs.

Selecting Food/ Preparing a Menu:

My favorite go to dish has always been a Pasta with Oil & Garlic. There are so many variations like, type of pasta, bows would be cute for this type of setting, type of oil, olive or avocado. The only downfall is this meal leaves your house (and breath) with the lovely aroma of garlic… I personally love the smell, in my home, but given you’ll be socializing and dancing. Something lighter in the spices may be a better choice.

Michael’s has SO many adorable baking supplies and when you hit a sale, they are SO cheap! Cupcakes are a MUST for almost any party – check out these heart shaped cupcake molds which can be perfectly topped with PINK! heart Sprinkles. It’s important to read the small print because some items here can not be shipped. With that said. check your local store sooner than later. Do we have any chocolate lovers in the house … ME! ME! ME! Check out cute Chocolate Heart Tray and a homemade recipe. These would look so cute on a platter or to be placed in goodie bags for favors.

Remember when you were kids and your friends would invite you over for arts and crafts or you enjoyed coloring books? Yes, of course we have all grown up and prefer to just buy this stuff now, but a little home craft never hurt anyone (maybe!). For this craft( begin with these 3″ x 2.5″ wood hearts or for large projects; 9″ x 8 3/4″ . Select some of your favorite colors with all the Acrylic Paint you can imagine! Use your imagination!! remember with the color wheel; you can make hundreds of colors by blending!! Think of a project or 2 that you would like do to before hand and make sure you have all the supplies at hand! Michales is great for quick crafts however sometimes the items are online purchase only.

Crank on those Happy-Go-Lucky Dance Moves and and shake the night away! Besides the obvious girls night music like “Dance with Somebody” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling”. Be sure to add these bad-ass girl-power songs to your playlist!!!

What should Friends Bring?

If your gal-pals are anything like mine; they are going to bring something no matter HOW many times you say you’re all set. Well tonight, let’s take advantage of that!!! Have a Wine and Dessert Tasting! Let theme know its a tasting.. so no need to bring a whole serving for all. Leftovers are great, but also wasteful. Suggest recipe sharing so if you have a new hit at the party, the recipe can go home with everyone. Purchase cute (glass!) dessert plates at Kohl’s or Target. I love glass plates so you aren’t wasting paper; and your table setting will look nicer.

Decorations!! The BEST part.

Have a lot of fun with a fancy backdrop for photo ops and making silly memories! Possibly buy or borrow a printable camera and make a scrapbook then and there. Even better, purchase some old school disposable cameras. Note; they might be hard to find a place to develop. Here are a few backdrops that I found from Amazon!

If these backdrops don’t strike your interest there is so much more available. Be creative, start off with visiting Target and Michael’s. If you can’t find much, make your way to Amazon! An idea that I found was to string 4.5 cm hearts (20 count) into some clear string or whatever you have and hang over mantel or door way. You can also purchase a mantel or wall banner (Be my Galentine) with cute hanging decorations. (here!). Just be mindful of the amount you are purchasing; don’t want to be short on a count when it comes to pulling the whole project together. {I’m pretty much famous for this}

Pick a signature cocktail (& name)
  • Think back on the friends you are inviting. Was there a certain night you drank something and it will bring back fun memories, maybe a wedding drink you all enjoyed. The drink doesn’t quite matter – as long as it’s good!! Then grab a chalkboard and name it something cute and themed.
  • Barbie Shot
  • The Love Bug
  • #Gals
  • The Sweetheart
Setting The Table

Your dinner table may be the center and focal point of your whole party, so be sure to think about every little detail. For more of a classier setting, lets head back to Amazon and purchase cloth napkins! They come in an assortment of color – so feel free to mix and match! Wrap your silverware with ribbon or make a fun origami shapes! If you have decided to keep your party more on the simple side and use paperwear (totalllly fine!!) The Oriental Trading is the way to go! Everything you need from cute dinner plates to drink napkins!!!

Table centerpieces can add a pop of color and style to your gathering. Simple but classy centerpieces can be mason jars filled with pink, red and white flowers. Then use these tags then give them away at the end of the night. OR! make your own! Pick up some Roses at your local Flower Shoppe or Food Store! Note: it IS Valentine’s Day.. so selecting a baby’s breath or another kind of flower may be easier on your wallet.

Giveaway and Favors

As the night wraps up, give your guests a favor and thank them for celebrating Galentines Day with you! I have already mentioned the homemade chocolate above, I also love these simple but totally useable ideas. I found these really cute bags that you can fill up with goodies! I love personalized M&Ms! You can add little funny sayings or inside jokes! Etsy is always my first stop for cute unique things; support small shops too!!

Thank you for reading about throwing the perfect Galantines’ Day Party. I would love to hear from you and see how your event went. I hope that some of my ideas were useful. Stay tuned for more holiday party ideas.

Remember the acronym they taught you in elementary school, K.I.S.S (keep it simple, stupid). I often have to remind myself of this. We are over-saturated with skincare products and every time I step foot into a beauty department, I’m overwhelmed with the glitzy signs promising moisturized, wrinkle free, glass like, non-pigmented, baby soft skin overnight. Truth be told, there’s absolutely no product out there that will deliver all of those results overnight. If there were, we’d all be using it! From Neutrogena to La Mer, I’ve tried it all, but only very few make it into my morning routine.

  1. Since I have a pretty strict skincare routine at night, I like to start off with a very simple cleanser. I’ve tried different cleansers and a lot of them can be too harsh and drying on my skin. This one here is free of parabens, sulfates, fragrances, dyes, lanolin, etc. The best part is that it’s less than $10 and can be found at your local drugstore.

2. This is where I should probably use a vitamin c serum, but every serum tend to clog my pores. If you have any recommendations please send them my way! For now, I am using the Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum to give my skin a nice glow.

3. Since there’s still a bit of moisture in the air in the Fall I don’t need to use a heavy moisturizer, so I stick to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer. In the Winter I will switch over to the Ultra Facial Cream. My skin is sensitive but also a combination of oily and dry, sometimes dehydrated. It’s a disaster of a mix to have. This moisturizer gives me enough moisture throughout the day without leaving my greasy and congested. Once Winter hits my skin will need something a bit more nourishing, but this does the trick for now and is fairly inexpensive for such a great quality product. I use this moisturizer every day and it’s lasted me over a year now.

4. Last but not least, I apply this Elta MD SPF 46 Sunscreen. Just because you have a moisturizer that has SPF in it already does not mean that you’re getting the best protection possible. Yes, you need sun protection on gloomy and rainy days. This also works as a great base before your makeup. You’re probably thinking, “I can’t even stand to think about how oily my skin would be by layering a moisturizer AND a SPF.” Think again. It’s made to be layered over your normal skincare routine and under your makeup. The best part? It’s made specifically for sensitive, acne and roseaca prone skin. This came in a Dermstore kit and it’s not only the one thing I reach for on the daily, but I’ve gotten Jen hooked on it. She then has spread the word to some of her office gals and needless to say, I need to buy stock in Elta MD. This is my ride or die SPF.

And that’s it for my mourning routine! I try and keep it simple! What are you daily go-to’s in the am?
